Solar Photovoltaics
A Solar Photovoltaic (PV) system converts the energy from the sun into electricity that you can use in your home. If your system generates more than you are using at any time, the excess is automatically exported (sold) back to the grid. If you are using more than you are generating (for instance, at night), you import your energy from the grid as normal. You are using the grid as a battery.

Feed-In-Tariff (FiT)- FiT pays you 41.3p for every unit for every unit of electricity a solar PV system generates. For larger commercial applications greater than 4kWp, payments of upto 36.1 per unit are awarded. In all cases, the payments are made regardless of whether the energy was used on site or exported to the grid. In addition to the FiT, payments are made for units sold back to the grid through a supplier. This amount varies from supplier to supplier but is always over 3p per unit.
Solar PV can be built into the roof, of your house. This is called roof integration. We recommend doing this if it is a new build or you live in a conservation area. Solar PV can also be roof mounted, mounted onto a wall or even mounted on the ground. 1kW of solar PV requires around 8m² of roof space.
